46428 was built at Crewe in 1948. After stays at 10B Preston and 9F Heaton Mersey it arrived at 10A Springs Branch (Wigan)
in March 1951. It worked mostly on the Wigan (Central) to Glazebrook route. During 1954 it had a 3 month summer holiday at
6K Rhyl, returning to Springs Branch in September. 46428 moved from Springs Branch to 2B Nuneaton in 1962. Almost immediately
it departed to 21C Bushbury where it stayed for two years. The next move was to 2L Leamington. It then saw service from 2A
Tyseley. In October 1966 it was reallocated to 5B Crewe South, but did it ever get there. It was withdrawn in December 1966
and spent some time stored at 2B Oxley before arriving at Woodhams scrapyard in September 1967. In 1976 it was purchased by
the Strathspey Railway in Scotland to provide a spare boiler for 46464. There was a possibility that 46464's boiler/firebox
had been damaged in a lighting up incident, but this proved not to be the case. 46428 was bought by the Standard Four Group
in 1987 and transported to Bury.
