Standard 4 2-6-4T 80097

Standard 4 tank 80097 was built at Brighton Works in 1954. It was allocated to 33A Plaistow and worked on the London, Tilbury and Southend line. This line was electrified in 1962 and 80097 and its classmates were transfered to other depots. After a brief stay at 30A Stratford 80097 moved to the Western Region depot 87D Swansea East Dock. From there it worked on local lines and the Central Wales line to Shrewsbury. July 1963 saw the loco move to 89D Oswestry for 11 months. It then moved to 6F Macynlleth. Withdrawal took place  in July 1965. 80097 arrived at Dai Woodham's Barry scrapyard in January 1966. It was there for 19 years before being purchased by the Bury Standard 4 Group in 1985. The loco was moved to the East Lancs Railway. Some work was done at various sites around the E L R and the chassis ended up parked in Platform 1 at Bury Bolton Strret Station. In 1989 work started on the construction of our own workshop and 80097's chassis was finally rolled into the completed works in 1992.
